Plano ISD

On Wednesday, April 14th hundreds of Plano ISD educators and administrators came together to continue their exploration into “Future-Focused Organizational Transformation”. During the one hour session, participants viewed a prerecorded lecture by educational theorist Sir Ken Robinson where he discussed new perspectives we must take in the education of our youth. Additionally, I facilitated participants through a project-based learning exercise to help give them the perspective of a 21st Century Learner. The specific tool used for this exercise–the “Random Activity Generator“, is an iPhone App developed by John Davitt and based on his original web-based application–the “Learning Event Generator“. The Plano ISD participants were split up into teams to perform the exercise. The results of this exercise can be found below:

Version 1. Breaking weather news!

Sorry to interupt your regularly schedule programing. A dramtic change in our weather is coming as a pleasant high pressure front is coming bring lots of sunshine as we move toward locking up nuclear weapons in four years. In history our low temperature was a closed communist society and our high is a sprinkle of optimism as China moves toward working more countries toward a prosperous and peaceful future. The ten year forecast is uncertain with variable volatility but with hope shining through.

Version 2. Breaking weather news!

Coming out of a long period of dark oppressive rule, we seem, to be seeing a break in the stormy regime.

Some flowers are now blooming in tianamen square in the midst of a new high pressure system.

The next five day forecast shows some resistance by an extreme low pressure system that might suppress the high pressure system, and for us to continue to see several months of cloudy skies.

Out in the West there is on the horizon a couple of storms that might add fuel to the high pressure system where the high and low systems could give way to a new calmer system.

We are waiting for the computer models to predict the next model.

On the morning of 4-1-10 I was walking to my car on my way to wrk when I noticed a leaf w/an unusual growth on it. I bent down to look more closely & saw small eggs clumped on the underside of the leaf. Right before eyes the eggs began to hatch & larva, that looked like small worms, emerged & began to eat the leaf that had been it’s host. I was disturbed by the violent behavior of this larvae!
Approximately 2wks later I returned to the scene. The leaf was dead & the
Larva had attached themselves to nearby tree branches & appeared to be dead. I was now afraid for the safety of my tree! At this time I was so concerned I contacted the authorities.
It took 2 wkd for them to respond to my 911 distress call. Finally they responded just in time. As I was showing them the pupa on my tree, we witnessed a horrible event. The head & thorax began to swell with blood, the shell cracked & we saw the head begin to emerge. The soggy wet wings followed & the beast just sat still. We were afraid for our lives & the authorities were poised to Darwin ther weapons when much to our surprise the butterfly flew away!

1. Create a backdrop by using a lamp on a wall
2. Create something that looks like a stove with a pot on it
3. Use dry ice in the pot and drop the egg in the pot. The dry ice will simulate the steam.
