Future-focused organizational transformation must start with the changing of one’s perspective–this is especially true for educational organizations who wish to transform. A simple and elegant point-of-view with regards to this specific type of organizational transformation is beautifully presented by Sir Ken Robinson. Sir Robinson is an education and creativity expert who, in 2006, gave this lecture to the TED Conference entitled “Schools Kill Creativity”. While I have embedded this very compelling and entertaining presentation into this blog post, you may also want to Click Here to learn more about Ken Robinson and his perspective on education.
If you know me, then you know I’m a huge advocate for the story of an idea. Any idea is the result of the creative process in one form or another. However, many times those who create ideas (or solutions to problems/challenges) have a problem/challenge with telling others the story of that very idea. A great tool for developing one’s storytelling process would have to be the very germinal innovation from the Disney Corporation–it’s called the Storytellers Sandbox. Below is a short video that shows the Storytellers Sandbox in action.

David Merrill of MIT Media Labs presented a new technology designed especially for learning. This video shows his presentation of the technology at the well known TED Conference. This is truly one of those “Ideas Worth Sharing”. I really want to get my hands on a pile of these “Siftables”. Not only do I forecast that these digital building blocks will be a staple of classrooms of the future, I think that like Augmented Reality, this very tactile technology, could revolutionize the tool of “Gaming Chips” which is commonly used in Architectural/Space Planning. After watching this lecture feel free to Click Here in order to learn more about Siftables.

This video shows you how to create an Augmented Reality interface for any digital 3-D model that is built using Google SketchUp. In combination with the iPhone or iPod Touch (even all the other iPod models) this could create a completely immersive pedagogical tool for 21st Century Learning Environments. I think one of the most promising opportunities for this technology is in what Architectural Planners call “Affinity Analysis”. We could make the always very 2-Dimensional tool of “Gaming Chips” much more robust for the client by applying Augmented Reality technology to each “gaming chip”.
